One of the most important pieces of equipment for scuba diving is the BCD, or buoyancy control device. It helps divers stay at a neutral buoyancy level underwater and provides positive buoyancy at the surface. It's a device that divers wear to attach their gas tanks. It goes by many names, depending on who makes it and where. Here are a few examples to give you an idea:

Types of BCDs
Jacket Style: Commonly used by recreational divers; wraps around the torso and inflates on the front and back. Sometimes called an ADV Jacket (Advanced Design Vest) or Wrapp around Vest.
Back-Inflate: Provides better trim and stability by inflating only at the back. Sometimes, it is called a Hybrid Jacket as it's an in-between version of an ADV Jacket and a Backplate / Wing system.
Wing, Harness, and Backplate: Preferred by technical divers; features a modular system with a back-mounted bladder for enhanced mobility.
Key Components of a diving BCD
Inflatable Bladder:
The bladder can be inflated or deflated to control buoyancy. Inflation occurs using air from the scuba tank, which is delivered via a low-pressure inflator.
Inflator Hose:
Used to add air into the bladder manually. Includes a dump valve to release air when needed.
Straps and Harness:
Secure the BCD to the diver and hold the scuba tank firmly in place. Adjustable for comfort and a proper fit.
Integrated Weight System:
Many BCDs feature pockets to hold weights, eliminating the need for a separate weight belt.
D-Rings and Pockets:
Used to attach accessories like lights, tools, or underwater cameras.
Release Valves:
